The Good This was a very detailed and well organized book A very good read from a historical perspective on the battle of Ramadi The details of the ops and friendships forged in battle as well as the climate and country of Ira were what made the book a very good read The stories of friends heroes and losses added to the value this book brought I could feel the writers pain and pain of his brothers in arms at their losses at the hand of the enemy Loved the additional detail about Chris Kyle from someone who actually served with him in combat Again very good overallThe Bad As a former Marine I know and understand the profanity that can be used in military settings however I don t necessarily believe it was necessary in the drafting of this book at least not at the level written in the book It would have a wider audience if the swearing and cursing were kept to a minimum I don t think it adds any value to the story and limits my ability to let my younger son read this book He is interested in the military and I like for him to read historical and first hand accounts they should be kept real but professional and I think the writer could have found a balance Also I think one other aspect of the book that took away from its overall impact and changed the rating from 5 to 3 stars is the callousness or coldness that was conveyed when detailing accounts of kills and the almost constant competition in dealing out death to the enemy I can comprehend the job that must be done and the professionalism and hard work to get to the level of a Navy Seal I can also comprehend the stresses of combat and the brutal enemy we were at war against But the joy the writer seemed to take in watching people crumple under the lens of his rifle scope seemed to me to be over done at times and probably could have been conveyed differently Lastly I think the SEALs are the best mantra that was constantly conveyed through the book could have been tempered as well knowing how many people made great sacrifices from so many branches including other special forces teams such as Green Berets and Army RangersThese are just my opinions based on my own Military experience and the countless military books I have read Again had the potential to be a 5 star book but overall was still a good read
